Analysis of Promotions Packages 1 - Arctic Monkeys. (Music Video)

Arctic Monkeys - The Hellcat Spangled Shalalala.

The music video I have chosen to analyse from this album is 'The Hellcat Spangled Shalalala'. 

·       The first shot for this video lasts 8 seconds which is quite a long shot for a music video

·      It then cuts to a black and white long shot of the band, but you can just see their silhouettes

·      Both of these shots are slightly out of focus

·      There is then a low-ish angle wide shot of the band in
black and white still but at night time, you still can't make out the facial features

·      The light then flashes on so you can see the band in black and white, but it still isn’t in very good quality and it is in hand held cam

·      There is then a close up of the bands hands/arms and it zooms in on one members hands

·      This cuts to the band walking a long a cliff edge, this has very high key lighting as it is outside in the sunshine and you can
see the glare from the sun on the camera lens, it is still is slightly
out of focus and hand held cam

·      This cuts to a low angle of them walking down the steps of the cliff but because the sun is behind them we can only see their silhouettes

·      It then cuts to a pan across a hill range then we see the bands silhouettes again, this is still slightly out of focus and on hand held cam. This shot is also in black and white

·      There is then 3 very quick shots of some trees, a card number
and a zippo lighter

·      The pace of the song has picked up so the ASL of the shots has sped up too.

·      There are very quick shots of the band getting ready for a gig
 and the fans outside waiting to go in to the venue.

·      The quick shots a very jerky and jumpy and the zooms are not very smooth

·      This then cuts to a woman dressed in black leather dancing in a white room

·      There are lots of different quick shots of the venue and the fans and a woman in a car with black gloves on

·      There is then a shot of one of the band members making a tower out of red plastic cups, the zooms are very jerky and it is still
 out of focus and on hand held cam.

·      The cups then fall over which in editing is then over cranked

·      There is then lots of quick shots of close ups of the bands faces

·      It keeps flicking back to the woman in the white room and there are cuts to zoom out the shot which makes it look very jerky
and it is still on hand held cam and out of focus

·      There is an over cranked wide shot of the band walking though some bushes and we are at the back of the line so we can
mainly see the back of one of them

·      There is a high angle shot of the sea and it is again slightly out
 of focus and on hand held cam

·      There is one shot of the front man that is in better quality than
 the rest of the video

·      There is then tracking of them in a car

·      This cuts to an upwards pan of a wide shot of the band walking
·      At 2:22 it cuts to some live footage of them with the audience singing some of the songs and finishes on a compilation of 
shots that were in the video.
